A Note On Madness

On a cursory glance around the forums here I noticed that no one has mentioned a tactic that Ive used since about the third time my guild took down Madness.

DISCLAIMER: no idea how well this works on 25 man, I only ever do 10s.

The whole idea revolves around taking down the large tentacles prior to them being able to use their "Impale" ability twice. This is achieved by taking one tank and two healers so that you can take two more dps. Essentially the extra "bazoobaguabo" enables you to deal with each of the damaging aspects of the fight, tank big hits, small tentacles, bloods etc. far faster which in turn reduces the healing required for the fight.

One of the finer details for this method is the order of platforms: with two healers; the last thing you want to have happen is have an "Elementium Bolt" land, as this will almost certainly cause your healers to go OOM keeping everyone up. With that in mind; the order I would recommend is: Green->Red->Blue->Yellow. This means that the time zone is up for every platform and the bolt can be taken down safely :) Don't forget to take down the smaller tentacles whenever they appear on DW; they are just about the most painful thing that happens in this method and it will be impossible if the dps don't take them down promptly.

One last thing to mention is that in phase two we've found that the best way to handle having one less tank and healer is to take DW down to roughly 12% (no lower as DOTs will take him bellow 10% and cause additional damage from him) and then stop dps to refocus on the adds (anywhere in the 10-15% range will do). Healers will have to chain cds such as "Pain Suppression" to keep the tank up for the two bigger adds. Once the adds are down, blow all cool downs and whip out some serious asparagus and you should be able to take down DW without having to deal with another set of adds. He usually dies a few seconds after the adds have spawned.

Hope this is helpful or gives some teams another method for the fight.

EDIT: Holy cow... I hadn't listened to CTR29 yet (only listened to it this morning)... oops this seriously sounds retarded now :p My apologies...

We use this tactic, but we do it Green > Red > Yellow > Blue.

If you kill Blue before Yellow, you run the risk of not being able to DPS down the Corruption prior to the second Impale since you lose the 20% damage buff when you kill Blue.

On the last platform (Blue) we all stack under the tentacle for Elementium Bolt and I used AMZ to absorb the impact, while the ranged finish off the tentacle before the second impale.

In Phase 2 we burn the small adds, then the first Elementium Terror and I switch to Blood Presence to taunt the second Terror across the platform and the MT immediately taunts him back. This is only so he has time to clear the debuff. Once the second Terror is down, I switch back to Unholy and we stack and burn DW.

Overall, the one-tank 2-heal strat seems to have the least amount of risk and less of a chance of something going wrong.

If DPS is not a problem (6-7 members doing 50k+ with the buff) then I would say just kill Blue first and Green last as you can completely ignore bolt impact with Dream (Blue > Yellow > Red > Green). I really like the flexibility of this encounter because you can adjust the strat in your favor depending on your raid makeup strengths and weaknesses.
