Officer Status-- Demoted


demirowe 1 posts 0 votes	So a couple of days ago i logged on and got quite the surprise. I had an in game mail from my GM and figured that it was just going to be the regular mail stating if she could make raid that evening or not, but was i wrong. The subject on the mail was Rank Change. It stated Dear Demi due to the recent actions that have been going on we have decided that it will be better for the guild to change your status from officer to raider. The actions that she was speaking of was me taking 2 of my 9 lvl 85 toons that were non raiding alts to a friends guild to help him get it lvl'ed up a little bit before panda comes out. This was a total surprise to me. I had made officer a mere 2 weeks earlier after 6 months of very dedicated raiding. We are on a medium population server, and were fortunate that we had 2 10 man raid teams in our guild. The grp1 which i was a part of had progressed to 3/8 H which isn't too shabby for our little server, Horde side speaking. When Diablo 3 came out we too felt the hit our RL/GM's wife and our main raid healer were addicted lol. It was to the point where they logged for raid and raid only and was getting to the point where when they all logged in for raid it wasnt with the same enthusiasm =(. When i was asked to be an officer in the guild mind u 2 weeks earlier it was stated that the reason i was to be an officer was my dedication/attendance. Out of 6 months of raiding I had missed only 2 raids and that was for family medical issue's. It was also said that I had a great attitude towards helping people when they asked and support in other ways. After reading the mail a couple of more times I started getting more upset. I ended up taking my toons out of the guild. Upon doing that I had gotten some tells from people that i had recruited to the guild for our raid group to fill the end of xpac/D3 lul. Upon explaining to them what had happened they also got upset and left the guild. I still felt bad for my old guild because they ended up loosing a MT healer and my fiance who is an exceptional dps. The reason that i am posting this is I received another mail from the Guild bashing me for stealing people and trying to bring down the guild and how i am not a good person ect ect it upset me i am a soft hearted person and wasnt to know what you all would have done in that situation. Did i do a bad thing by telling my recruits what really happened when i knew they would probably leave and it would hurt the guild? Am i an ass lol or are they just mad like my old lady says that they are getting bored with D3 and now starting to show interest in the game again and are just pissy because they lost a lot of core people I like that theory better xD The token mage Demirowe Posted Jun 12, 12 · OP 0 votes 0 votes
Hoofit 43 posts +11 votes	Keeping in mind we only know 1 perspective of the story, I see this as something that could have been avoided entirely with more communication and tactful planning ahead before doing what you had originally intended to do. From a GM's perspective, if they promoted a person to a position of Officer, then 2 weeks later that officer begins taking toons out of the guild and joining another guild, generally that's not the kind of message a GM wants their officers to send off to the other members of their guild. Regardless of why you did it. Likely the GM does not want an officer with split loyalties, At this point another effort of communication before action (From either party of GM/current officers and yourself) could have possibly prevented the eventual outcome, but decisions were made, and followed through with. To further complicate the issue, you then removed all your characters from the guild. This sends a message to the current guild leadership that their decision to remove you as an officer was the correct one. Was an expectation set of your duties or obligations before you accepted an Officer position, or is this information available to all officers on your guild's website? Was it really neccessary to remove 2 characters to help 1 friend in another guild? Did you discuss removing 2 characters to join another guild before you did it, or offer to invite your friend into your own instead to avoid removing anyone? Did you engineer your response to people that whispered you about the situation to make you appear like the victim or make the current guild leadership look bad as to sway those people to be on 'your side'? Again, only knowing your perspective of things can lead to a misunderstanding assuming too much. The real answer, as an officer of your guild, would have been to sit down and discuss your desires, intentions and solutions and see if you could have worked out something that benefited everyone. It sounds like it's rather late for any of that now, but you can always do better next time. In guild leadership open and clear commumication is key. Zhug 232 posts +29 votes	From this story you tell, I think Hoofit is right. This looks to me like a classic case of bad communication. This is a series of errors brought on and continued by a lack of communication, and I believe that no one person is completely in the right here. Here's how I break this bad communication thing down... 1. You not discussing the move of 2 alts to the friends guild or possibly not describing the scene well enough 2. Overreaction from the GM -- in my opinion this should have been handled in vent, not with a note, especially if you were just promoted 2 weeks ago. 3. Overreaction from you by pulling all of your toons out of the guild instead of talking to your GM over vent. 4. Overreaction from your friends after you told them about your situation instead of discussing it with your GM. 5. Overreaction of your old guildies when they found that you and several of your friends left the guild. I can hardly blame them for jumping to conclusions, since this whole chain of events happened because no one seems to be communicating with one another other than to tell them EXTREME things! (you're an officer, now you're not, I quit!, we quit too!, you're a jerk for quitting and making all your friends quit!) It's sad mainly because you and your GM had so many opportunities to try to straighten out the situation before it got to that point. It's either lack of patience or lack of passion that would allow you to let that relationship with your old guild crumble. Even if you were demoted, I would think that if you wanted it bad enough you would have discussed the entire situation with your GM. However, what's done is done.
